An asscher cut moissanite framed by a halo of large brilliant cut rounds, each one held in its own claws rather than beaded into a shared field, with further large rounds set shared prong down both shoulders. This is the biggest and heaviest asscher ring we make.

We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.

This is a cluster halo, not a pave halo

The distinction is the whole point of the ring, so it is worth being clear about.

A pave halo uses many very small stones beaded closely together so the frame reads as a continuous band of light. You do not count the stones; you see a bright edge.

A cluster halo uses far fewer, far larger stones, each set in its own claws with visible metal between them. You can count them. Each one behaves as an individual gem, throwing its own flash rather than contributing to a general glow.

The honest consequence: a cluster halo does not make the centre stone look bigger in the way a tight pave halo does, because the eye reads separate stones rather than one enlarged outline. What it does instead is make the whole ring look considerably bigger and more valuable, which is a different effect and worth wanting on its own terms.

How this compares with our other halo asscher rings

We make five halo rings in this shape and they are not variations of one design.

The Pave Halo ring uses small micropave stones on a plain band. It is the delicate one, and the one that genuinely enlarges the apparent size of the centre.

The Bezel Halo ring puts a pave halo outside a full bezel rim, so centre and halo read as two clearly framed objects.

This one is the statement piece. Large stones in the halo, large stones on the shoulders, substantial throughout. If you have been disappointed by how small a halo ring looked in person, this is the answer to that.

The shared prong shoulders

The shoulder stones are also large, and they are shared prong set, meaning each claw does duty for two neighbouring stones. That is why you see a small V of metal between them rather than a continuous bead.

Shared prongs let the stones sit closer together and expose more of each stone than a channel or a bead setting would, so more light gets in from the sides. On accents this size that is a real gain rather than a technicality.

The stone

An asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, so its outline is an octagon that reads as a square. The facets are cut in concentric squares that draw the eye down into the stone, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors. It flashes in broad blocks rather than sparkling.

Surrounding a still, geometric step cut with a ring of brilliant cut rounds is a deliberate contrast. The centre holds steady while everything around it flickers. That is why a cluster halo suits an asscher better than it suits another brilliant, where the two would simply compete.

Every centre stone is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, and every halo and shoulder stone is Colorless and VVS too. Matching matters enormously here: with large accents sitting directly against the centre, any difference in colour would be plainly visible.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which in a step cut shows as depth rather than fire, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. Be aware that the halo adds substantial width, so even a 2 carat centre produces a large ring. If you want something restrained, this is not the design and our pave halo or plain bezel would serve you better.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the claws and the metal between the halo stones read as a warm framework holding a ring of white stones, which is what makes the cluster construction legible. White gold hides that framework and pushes the design closer to a continuous halo, which is cleaner but loses the point of it. Rose gold is warm and unusual on a piece this large. Silver keeps a big ring affordable, and the difference between silver and 18K is larger on this design than on any of our slimmer ones simply because of the metal involved. 10K is the hardest, 14K is the everyday balance, 18K is the richest but softest. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We build the halo frame, set each halo stone in its own claws, set the shoulder stones in their shared prongs, then set the centre and polish for your metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives. Individually clawing a halo takes several times as long as beading a pave one, which is most of why this ring costs what it does. That is how we offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Work underneath the halo, which is where dirt collects and where it dulls a large stone fastest. Clean under the centre too, since a step cut shows anything trapped below. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Also in this family

Other halo designs we make, so you can see the whole choice in one place:

  • Lotus Petal Halo, each round in its own pointed metal petal, the only halo that changes the silhouette

We would rather point you to a different ring of ours than sell you the wrong one. If none of these is quite right, tell us what you are after and we will say so plainly.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not really. The halo is wide and sits low, so a straight band will not meet the shank cleanly. A contoured band shaped to the halo is the proper answer, and plenty of people wear this ring alone because it is substantial enough not to need company.

Can it be resized? Within a moderate range. The lower shank is plain, which helps, but this is a heavy ring and large resizes are not ideal. Please take the sizing seriously.

Is it very large on the hand? Yes, deliberately. On a smaller hand a 2 carat centre in this setting is already a considerable ring. We would rather you knew that before ordering.

Will inclusions show in a step cut? Not at VVS. That grade is what makes a step cut worth doing.
