An asscher cut moissanite in four claws on a twisted band where one strand carries micropave and the other stays plain polished metal, the pair winding around each other for the full circumference of the ring. The pave does not stop at the shoulders.

We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.

A twist that goes all the way round

Most twisted bands twist at the shoulders and settle into a plain shank underneath. This one keeps winding. Both strands continue around the full circle, and the paved strand keeps its stones the whole way.

The result is a ring with no back. Look at it from any angle and you see the same alternation of bright stones and polished metal spiralling past. Turn your hand over and it still reads as a set ring.

The cost of that is resizing, which is limited on any fully set band, and a higher price than our shoulder length twists. Both are stated plainly below.

One strand set, one plain

Only one of the two strands carries stones. The other is smooth polished metal.

Because they wind around each other, the sparkle appears and disappears as the strands rotate past one another. A twist with pave on both strands looks uniform from every angle; this one has a rhythm to it, and that rhythm is what most people actually notice.

It also halves the number of stones sitting on the underside of the band, where wear happens.

Please read this if you are comparing our twisted asscher rings

Six of our asscher rings use a crossing or twisting shank. They are genuinely different rings and the choice is easy once laid out.

Plain Crossover no stones at all. The quietest and cheapest.

Open Crossover a short run of pave near the head only.

Twisted Vine Pave pave along both strands, open crossings, cathedral head.

Milgrain Twist a closed twist with pave bordered by beading. Antique in character.

Twisted Vine Hidden Halo one strand paved and one plain, shoulder length, with a hidden halo beneath the stone.

This one one strand paved and one plain, running the full circumference, with no hidden halo.

The nearest comparison is the Twisted Vine Hidden Halo, and the choice between them is straightforward: that ring gives you a detail under the stone, this one gives you stones all the way round the finger. This one costs a little more, because setting a twist evenly around the full circle takes longer than setting two shoulders, and neither is better.

The stone

An asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, so its outline is an octagon that reads as a square. The facets are cut in concentric squares that draw the eye down into the stone, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors. It flashes in broad blocks rather than sparkling.

Every centre stone is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, and every accent is Colorless and VVS too.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which in a step cut shows as depth rather than fire, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. The strands are slender, so the centre dominates at every size.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in white gold, where the paved strand and the plain strand read as one continuous bright ribbon and the alternation is subtle. Yellow gold is the more expressive choice here: the plain strand is unmistakably gold and the paved strand unmistakably white, so the winding is obvious at a glance. If the alternation is why you like this ring, choose yellow or rose. Silver is the most affordable route. 10K is the hardest and holds fine beading longest, 14K is the everyday balance, 18K is the richest but softest, and on slender fully set strands we would lean toward 14K or 10K. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We form both strands, true the twist so the spacing stays even the whole way round, set the pave along one strand only, then set the centre and polish for your metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives. Keeping a twist even around a complete circle is harder than keeping it even across two shoulders, because any drift accumulates and meets itself at the base. That is how we offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush worked along the twist from both sides and all the way round. Clean under the centre too, since a step cut shows anything trapped below. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Can it be resized? Only within a small range, because the twist and its stones run the full circumference. If your finger size is likely to change, our shoulder length twists resize far more easily and we would rather point you to those.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not perfectly. A twisted profile meets a straight band at intervals rather than along a line. A contoured band fits properly, and many people wear this one alone.

Do the stones on the underside wear? More than those on top, as on any fully set band. Moissanite copes well at 9.25 on the Mohs scale and the stones sit low in the strand.

Will inclusions show in a step cut? Not at VVS. That grade is what makes a step cut worth doing.
