Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%An asscher cut moissanite in four slender claws on an ultra fine band, with scalloped micropave running about half the length of each shoulder and a hidden halo set around the basket beneath the stone. The lower half of the band is plain.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
This shank is deliberately fine, and that is the design. A very slim band makes the centre stone look larger by simple contrast: there is less metal beside it for the eye to measure it against.
It also sits lightly. People who find engagement rings bulky often get on with this one, and it stacks against a wedding band more neatly than any other design in our asscher range.
The honest caveat is that a fine band is a fine band. It is less robust than a substantial one, it will show a knock more readily, and in 18K it can be bent out of round by real force. If you work with your hands we would steer you to 10K or 14K here rather than 18K, and if you want something you never have to think about, our bezel designs are the sturdier choice.
The pave is scalloped, meaning the metal between the stones is cut away in small curves so each stone sits in its own shallow bay rather than in a straight wall. That lets light reach the stones from the side as well as from above, which is why a scalloped setting sparkles more than a flush one using the same stones.
The coverage stops at roughly the halfway point of each shoulder. That is a deliberate balance: enough to frame the centre and to read clearly from above, while leaving the lower half plain so the ring resizes easily and sits flat against a band.
Around the basket beneath the centre sits a ring of small stones facing outward. You do not see them from above. They appear in profile, and they fill what would otherwise be a dark gap under a stone that sits fairly high.
On a ring this delicate the hidden halo does a particular job: it adds substance where it cannot be seen, so the ring gains presence without gaining width.
The Twisted Vine Hidden Halo ring pairs the same feature with a twisted band where one strand is paved and one is plain.
The Pave Bezel ring has a hidden halo plus stones set into the bezel rim itself.
Of those three this is the plainest and lightest. It is not the cheapest way into a hidden halo, though: our Plain Band Hidden Halo costs less again, because it has no pave on the band at all. It is the one to choose if you want a fine, classic solitaire silhouette with one detail hidden in the profile.
An asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, so its outline is an octagon that reads as a square. The facets are cut in concentric squares that draw the eye down into the stone, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors. It flashes in broad blocks rather than sparkling.
Every centre stone is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, and every accent is Colorless and VVS too.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which in a step cut shows as depth rather than fire, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. This design carries a large stone better than almost anything else we make, because the band is so fine that nothing competes with the centre. At 4 or 5 carat the effect is striking.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in white gold, which suits a fine band because the metal recedes and the stones lead. Yellow gold draws the band as a distinct warm line, which makes the ring read as more designed and less minimal. Rose gold is soft and pretty at this scale. Silver is the most affordable route, though on a band this fine we would mention that silver is the softest of the four and will mark most readily. 10K is the hardest and the sensible choice for a slim shank in daily wear. 14K is the everyday balance. 18K is the richest but the softest, and on this particular design that trade is more real than on our heavier rings. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We draw the fine band, cut the scalloped seats, set each accent, set the hidden halo around the basket, then set the centre and polish for your metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives. Fine work leaves no margin: on a band this slim a seat cut a fraction too deep weakens the shank. That is how we offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.
Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Clean under the stone in particular, since the hidden halo sits exactly where soap collects. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and be a little more careful with this one than with our heavier designs. Keep it away from bleach.
Other slim pave banded designs we make, so you can see the whole choice in one place:
We would rather point you to a different ring of ours than sell you the wrong one. If none of these is quite right, tell us what you are after and we will say so plainly.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, better than any other ring in our asscher range. Fine, straight sided, plain in the lower half.
Can it be resized? Yes, easily, because the lower half carries no stones. That was part of the reason for stopping the pave halfway.
Is a band this thin durable enough for daily wear? In 10K or 14K, yes, with normal care. In 18K it is softer and we would rather you knew that. It is not the ring for someone who is hard on jewellery, and we would sooner say so than have it come back bent.
Will inclusions show in a step cut? Not at VVS. That grade is what makes a step cut worth doing.
