The Asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, and its long parallel facets create the hall of mirrors effect that step cuts are known for, a series of reflections drawing the eye down into the stone rather than scattering light off the surface. Because the design carries no accents and no halo, everything depends on the quality of the centre stone, which is why every one we set is graded E colour and VVS2 clarity. Every diamond is a laboratory grown diamond, identical in carbon structure, hardness and brilliance to a mined diamond. What is an Asscher cut diamond

An Asscher is a square step cut, meaning its facets run in long straight lines parallel to the edges of the stone rather than in the triangular pattern of a brilliant. The corners are cropped, so the outline is an octagon that reads as a square. Looking into an Asscher you see a series of concentric squares receding toward the centre, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors. It was first cut in 1902 and is closely associated with Art Deco design.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond

Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled laboratory over a few weeks instead of underground over billions of years. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye, only specialist equipment reading growth patterns can separate the two.

Why does clarity matter more on an Asscher cut

Step cuts have large open facets and no busy sparkle to distract the eye, so anything inside the stone is easier to see than it would be in a brilliant cut. That is why we set only VVS2 clarity in this design. At VVS2 any inclusions need 10x magnification to find, so the open facets stay clean.

Does this ring come with a certificate

Yes. Every ring ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone. IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the largest independent diamond grading laboratories in the world. The certificate confirms the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade and the laboratory grown origin. There is no extra charge for the certificate.

How is an Asscher different from an emerald cut

Both are step cuts with cropped corners, so they share the same facet style. The difference is the outline. An emerald cut is rectangular and elongates the finger, while an Asscher is square and sits more compactly. An Asscher also tends to be cut with more depth, which gives it more brightness through the centre than a shallow emerald.

What does E colour VVS2 actually mean

E colour is the second highest grade on the diamond colour scale and sits inside the colourless range, so the diamond looks bright white with no warm or yellow tint. VVS2 means very very slightly included, the second highest clarity tier. Any inclusions are so small that a trained grader needs 10x magnification to find them and they are completely invisible to the naked eye.

Every piece is made to order, so nothing is pulled off a shelf. Production takes about 10 to 12 working days and shipping is 3 to 5 working days after that with tracked international courier. We accept returns and exchanges within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in original condition.

A lab grown diamond gives you a materially identical stone for a fraction of the price of a mined equivalent, which is what makes a 4 carat or 5 carat Asscher centre realistic on a normal budget. That matters more here than on most designs, because a solitaire has nowhere to hide, the size and quality of the single stone is the whole ring. Because the origin of every stone is documented from the moment it is grown, a lab grown diamond is conflict free by definition.
