An Asscher cut lab grown diamond held in four claws above a square hidden halo, on a plain slim band. The Asscher is the most architectural shape a diamond is cut into. It is square with deeply cropped corners, giving an octagonal outline, and its facets step down toward the centre in concentric squares so that looking into the table produces the effect people describe as a hall of mirrors, a series of frames receding into the stone. It was designed in 1902 by Joseph Asscher and is the shape most associated with Art Deco. Beneath it sits a hidden halo cut as a square rather than a circle, so it follows the stone's own geometry, invisible from above and visible only in profile. Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. With a plain shank the metal colour is the only other decision besides the stone. White gold suits the Art Deco character of an Asscher most closely, since the original period pieces were made in platinum. Yellow and rose gold pull the same stone toward something warmer and more antique. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and better protects the cropped corners.

Frequently asked questions

What is an Asscher cut?
A square step cut with deeply cropped corners, so the outline reads as an octagon. Its facets step down in concentric squares toward the culet, which is what produces the hall of mirrors effect when you look into the table.

How is it different from an emerald cut?
Both are step cuts, but an emerald cut is rectangular and an Asscher is square with more sharply cropped corners and a deeper pavilion. The Asscher draws the eye down into the stone, while an emerald cut spreads light along its length.

Why does a step cut need high clarity?
Its open facets act like windows rather than scattering light, so inclusions are far easier to see than in a brilliant cut. That is why we set only VVS2 in this shape.

What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small diamonds set around the underside of the centre stone, below the girdle. It is invisible from above and only appears from the side. Here it is square so it follows the Asscher's outline.

Is this easy to pair with a wedding band?
Yes. The shank is plain and straight where a band meets it, with no pave to line up.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
