Asscher Cut Lab Grown Diamond Four Claw Solitaire Ring

An asscher cut lab grown diamond held in four claws on a plain slim band. The asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, and looking straight down into one you see a series of concentric squares receding toward the culet, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors. It is the most architectural of all the diamond cuts and the reason it was designed in 1902 in Amsterdam rather than adapted from something older. Because the whole appeal is that receding geometry, the ring around it is kept to nothing at all. Four claws at the corners, a slim polished shank, and an open gallery so light travels up through the stone rather than stopping at metal. E colour, VVS2 clarity, free IGI certificate. Made to order in Surat in ten metals and four carat weights.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. A step cut shows its body colour more openly than a brilliant, so a white metal keeps the asscher reading icy and emphasises the geometry, while yellow and rose gold warm it and lean into the antique deco character the cut already has. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and better protects the cropped corners.

Frequently asked questions

What is an asscher cut?
A square step cut with cropped corners, designed by Joseph Asscher in Amsterdam in 1902. Its long parallel facets create concentric squares that appear to recede toward the centre of the stone, an effect known as the hall of mirrors.

How is it different from an emerald cut?
Both are step cuts with cropped corners. An emerald cut is rectangular and elongated, an asscher is square. The square outline makes the concentric facet pattern symmetrical from every side, which is why the hall of mirrors effect is so much stronger in an asscher.

Why does clarity matter more in a step cut?
Long open facets act like windows into the stone rather than scattering light across it, so anything inside is more visible. That is why we set only VVS2 stones in step cuts.

Does an asscher look smaller than a round of the same carat?
Slightly, face up, because it carries more weight in depth. In exchange it has a much larger and more legible facet pattern, and the square outline reads as substantial on the finger.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. A free IGI certificate for the centre stone comes with every order, listing colour, clarity, cut grade and carat weight.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time to your address.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives the same hardness, brilliance and fire as a mined stone at a fraction of the price, which matters especially for an asscher. Its open facets demand high clarity, and a VVS2 asscher at 4 or 5 carat is only achievable at this price as a lab grown stone. Every centre stone we set is independently certified.
