Moissanite Solitaire Rings

Moissanite solitaire engagement rings โ€” one stone and nothing else, the oldest engagement ring design there is and still the hardest to get wrong. Handcrafted to order in solid 10K, 14K and 18K gold or 925 sterling silver, in round, oval, pear, cushion and emerald cuts. You approve a free 3D CAD render of your exact ring before we cast it.

Solitaire buying guide โ€” prongs, carat sizes, metals and FAQs

How to choose a solitaire

With no side stones to distract the eye, three things carry the whole ring: the cut of the centre stone, the prong style and the band width.

Cut matters more here than in any other setting. A halo or a pavรฉ band hides a mediocre stone behind surrounding sparkle. A solitaire does not. If you are going to spend on one thing, spend it on cut quality rather than an extra half carat.

Prongs decide the character. Four prongs show more of the stone and give a squarer outline. Six prongs hold more securely and make a round stone look rounder, but cover slightly more of it. A basket setting adds metal underneath and sits lower, which is the practical choice if you catch your hands on things. A cathedral setting sweeps the band up to meet the stone and lifts it higher โ€” more dramatic, more likely to snag.

Band width changes the apparent size of the stone. A thin band of 1.5 to 1.8 mm makes the centre stone look larger by contrast. A wider 2.5 mm band looks more substantial but visually shrinks the stone. If your budget caps the carat, go thinner.

Which carat size suits your hand?

Moissanite is priced by diamond equivalent weight (DEW), so the millimetre figure is the one that matters visually.

Round stone Diameter Best suited to
1.00 ct DEW 6.5 mm Finger sizes 4โ€“5, or a deliberately understated look
1.50 ct DEW 7.5 mm Sizes 5โ€“7 โ€” the most common choice
2.00 ct DEW 8.1 mm Sizes 6โ€“8
2.50 ct DEW 8.7 mm Sizes 7+ or anyone wanting obvious presence

Because a solitaire has nothing around it, the stone reads slightly smaller than the same carat set in a halo. If size is the priority, either step up a half carat or choose an elongated shape โ€” oval, pear or marquise all cover more finger than a round of equal weight.

Solitaires in different metals

A solitaire puts all the structural load on a small number of prongs, so metal hardness is a real consideration rather than a cosmetic one. 14K gold is the right default for daily wear. 18K is warmer in colour and noticeably softer โ€” fine, but expect to have the prong tips checked periodically. 10K is hardest and holds fine detail longest. 925 sterling silver is the lowest-cost option and works well as a first ring, though it is soft enough that it will need re-polishing.

Yellow gold flatters warmer stones; white gold and silver let a colourless stone read as white as possible. Rose gold sits between the two and is the most forgiving of a slight tint.

Designed on screen before it is cast

We build your solitaire in 3D and send you the render before any metal is cut. On a solitaire this matters more than usual, because small proportional choices โ€” how high the stone sits, how thin the band is, whether four prongs or six โ€” change the entire look, and they are much easier to judge on a render than in words. Ask for changes as many times as you like; there is no charge and no limit.

Frequently asked questions

Four prongs or six?

Six for security and a rounder outline, four for a cleaner view of the stone and a squarer silhouette. If you work with your hands, six. If you want the stone as visible as possible, four.

Will a thin band be strong enough?

At 1.5 mm and above in 14K gold, yes, for normal wear. Below that we would advise against it, and we will say so on the render rather than build something that will bend.

Can I add a halo or side stones later?

Adding a halo to an existing solitaire means resetting the stone, which is possible but usually costs more than having built it that way. If you are undecided, we can render both versions before you commit.

What is the lowest price a solitaire starts at?

Settings in 925 sterling silver start at $95 and 10K solid gold from $300, before the centre stone. The final price depends on carat, metal and setting complexity.
