It was designed in 1977 to solve a specific problem: rectangular diamonds looked elegant but dull next to rounds. Giving a rectangle brilliant facets fixed that, and the radiant remains the most fire filled of the rectangular shapes. If you want the outline of an emerald cut with the sparkle of a round, this is the cut that does it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWhy the corners matter\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe four corners of a radiant are cut off rather than left sharp, which removes the weakest points on the stone before it ever reaches a setting. Each cut corner then sits in its own claw, so the metal covers the only edges that could be knocked. It is a cut that is unusually well suited to daily wear.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThe slim pave band\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eA single row of small round diamonds runs down each shoulder in a shared claw setting, stopping short of the back of the band. Keeping it to one row and keeping the shank narrow does two things: it makes the centre stone read larger by comparison, and it leaves plain metal at the back for resizing.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWhat laboratory grown means here\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eA laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eMetals\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eChoose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. White gold is photographed here, which keeps the setting colourless and lets the stone read as its own colour. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest colour. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. An emerald cut has long step facets and flashes; a radiant has brilliant facets and sparkles.
