The two sloping faces catch light from different directions, so a very thin band still reads as a definite line on the finger instead of disappearing. It is a harder shape to make well than a plain round shank, and it is the reason this ring looks sharper than a comparable one.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWhy bezel set a pear\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe point of a pear is the thinnest part of the stone and the part that takes every knock. A claw can protect it, but a claw can also be caught, bent or lifted. A bezel encloses the point completely inside metal, with the rim following the taper down to the tip. Nothing is exposed. For anyone who has chipped a stone before, or who works with their hands, this is the answer.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThe hardest bezel to cut\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eForming a bezel around a round stone is routine. Forming one around a pear means the rim has to stay an even thickness while it travels from a wide curve to a sharp point, and any variation shows immediately against the outline of the diamond. It is cut and chased by hand around your individual stone, which is why we cannot make these in advance.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWhat laboratory grown means here\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eA laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant.
