We set each one by hand and check the alignment against the centre stone before finishing. The pears sit low and close, which keeps the profile slim and means the ring does not catch. The shank tapers from about 1.9 mm at the shoulders down to 1.6 mm at the base, which makes the head look larger without adding bulk to the finger. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire, which is the quality most buyers notice first. Small stones show fire more readily than large ones, so the petite pears flash noticeably as the hand moves.
