The stones nearest the V sit at an angle to their neighbours, so each seat is cut individually and the bead work has to stay even through the turn, otherwise the row looks kinked rather than curved. Our setters lay out both arms from the point outward so the two sides mirror each other exactly. The centre stone is set low into the V, which is what makes the ring sit flat despite the dramatic shape. An oval set east west shows a long horizontal flash across the finger rather than a vertical one, and moissanite's higher refractive index makes that flash noticeably more colourful than a diamond of the same size.
