The scrollwork is cut into the surface of the shank rather than cast into it, and the milgrain is a row of tiny beads run along both edges of the band with a knurling wheel, which is what gives an antique ring its soft outline instead of a hard machined edge. Look at the ring end on and the gallery under the stone is not solid metal. It is pierced into openwork so light passes right through the setting. This is the most labour intensive construction in the collection and it is the one that most closely follows early twentieth century workshop practice. E colour, VVS2 clarity, free IGI certificate.
