The ring becomes taller rather than wider, so it lengthens the finger the way a solitaire does instead of spanning it the way a conventional three stone does, and the outline of the head becomes a single soft almond shape made of three stones rather than a row of three separate ones. It is a quieter arrangement than it sounds, because the marquise cut is narrow and the eye reads the trio as one form.
