The opening breaks up what would otherwise be a solid mass of metal at the shoulders, so the band appears finer than it actually is and the centre stone gains a little more visual room. It also lets light through the shoulders from underneath, which stops the metal reading as a dark block beside a bright stone. Beyond that there is nothing: no collar, no hidden halo, no gallery rail, and no stones anywhere except the one.
