This one keeps winding. Both strands continue around the full circle, and the paved strand keeps its stones the whole way.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is a ring with no back. Look at it from any angle and you see the same alternation of bright stones and polished metal spiralling past. Turn your hand over and it still reads as a set ring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe cost of that is resizing, which is limited on any fully set band, and a higher price than our shoulder length twists. Both are stated plainly below.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eOne strand set, one plain\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOnly one of the two strands carries stones. The other is smooth polished metal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause they wind around each other, the sparkle appears and disappears as the strands rotate past one another. This one costs a little more, because setting a twist evenly around the full circle takes longer than setting two shoulders, and neither is better.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eThe stone\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAn asscher is a square step cut with cropped corners, so its outline is an octagon that reads as a square. The facets are cut in concentric squares that draw the eye down into the stone, an effect jewellers call the hall of mirrors. It flashes in broad blocks rather than sparkling.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEvery centre stone is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, and every accent is Colorless and VVS too.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMoissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which in a step cut shows as depth rather than fire, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChoose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. The strands are slender, so the centre dominates at every size.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eMetals\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChoose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in white gold, where the paved strand and the plain strand read as one continuous bright ribbon and the alternation is subtle. Yellow gold is the more expressive choice here: the plain strand is unmistakably gold and the paved strand unmistakably white, so the winding is obvious at a glance. If the alternation is why you like this ring, choose yellow or rose. Silver is the most affordable route. 10K is the hardest and holds fine beading longest, 14K is the everyday balance, 18K is the richest but softest, and on slender fully set strands we would lean toward 14K or 10K. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eMade to order\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNothing is taken off a shelf. We form both strands, true the twist so the spacing stays even the whole way round, set the pave along one strand only, then set the centre and polish for your metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives. Keeping a twist even around a complete circle is harder than keeping it even across two shoulders, because any drift accumulates and meets itself at the base. Clean under the centre too, since a step cut shows anything trapped below. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. A twisted profile meets a straight band at intervals rather than along a line.
